    Hi Cindi, thank you for another awesome video! I’m finding that your views align well with my own, and you’re a great resource (I’m a complete beginner). Can you tell me if this fabric is available in Canada? It’s ridiculously expensive to buy things from the States. Before I found this I bought Red Devil’s version of the Fiba Crackstop wall fabric, but I’m concerned by how big the holes are. I’m thinking I may have a bit more work to do given that fine details cannot be transferred with this method.

    • @rughooking
      @rughooking 11 дней назад

      It would be available if a teacher or shop owner brought it in from the states. I don't have that information. I realize the shipping is expensive. Your backing or foundation cloth is the most important part of your rug. Don't skimp on that.

  • @pennycandyys

    Is it true that rug weave is best for #5 cut or under? I think my strips might be a bit bigger, should I still use rug weave?

    • @rughooking
      @rughooking 19 дней назад

      If you meant rug warp, you can hook any size in that. Often the people who are quoting that you can only hook up to a 5 have never tried the other cuts. I use up to a #9. I don't often use 8.5 or 9, my favorite cut size is a #7. That hooks nicely in rug warp.

    Two things, first, as a former picture framer, it would help to draw those pencil lines in the ditch close to the edge of where the stretcher frame will be. That way, as you pull your fabric taut, you’ll easily be able to tell to keep the weave of your fabric pretty even. Second, if you keep a pair of pliers handy, you can just squeeze and pull the top handles to the bully clips off so they are not in your way as you work. Then just reverse that when you’re ready to remove your piece.

    • @rughooking
      @rughooking Месяц назад

      Not many rugs are put on stretchers, but I love your ideas. I would recommend hooki line or just outside so that when the rug is mounted, the pencil lines will not show. Thank you for the tip about the bull clips. That one will be put in place for the beginners.

    What kind of the clothe do you use ?

    • @rughooking
      @rughooking 4 месяца назад

      I prefer 100% wool fabric, as do most rug hookers. If you don't have that available, use what you have. Wool has the unique property that it does not get dirty. The dirt sits on the surface and just brushes off, making it the perfect fiber for rugs. Back in the day, the best carpets you could buy were made of wool.

    Where I can get wool cutter.

    • @rughooking
      @rughooking 4 месяца назад

      My favorite cutter, the Beeline, is available through dealers. I recommend Dorr Mill Store. I don't recommend the long blades unless you are cutting thousands of strips for kits. Various cut sizes are often out of stock, so you have to buy them when you see them. If you end up on someone else's website, be sure to call to verify that the blades are in stock. Several dealers sell them even if they do not have the blades to ship out. You eventually get them but it could take months. Better to find a dealer who has the blades now.

    • @rughooking
      @rughooking 5 месяцев назад

      It is "fairly" straight. The important thing is that you do not hook it solid from the top down or bottom up. Paint it as if you are using a paint brush. That will help the rows to finger into each other.

    I know you put this video out a long time ago but if you are still getting messages on it I have a question. I purchased someone’s wool hooking supplies. There is a backing cloth printed with a pattern and they started hooking a very small amount. There is a little rodent damage in a small spot and a larger spot of what I assume is rodent urine. Can I/ should I wash it before I work on it? Can I make a small cross hatch repair? The alternative is to just cut up the monk cloth that is in good repair and use it for smaller projects. And info would be most appreciated.

    • @rughooking
      @rughooking 6 месяцев назад

      I would recommend transferring it to another backing. Not because of the damage --- because it is monk's cloth. That is the hardest backing to hook into and it gives, in my opinion, an inferior finished project. I would transfer it to linen, or my favorite, rug warp. Monk's cloth stretches and is floppy. Rug Warp creates a firmer rug that lays flat on the floor. You can buy rug warp here: cindigayrughooking.com/product/rug-warp-rug-hooking-backing/ and learn more about the backings here: ruclips.net/video/wqvCI_EZA58/видео.html

      That was a really popular cutter in the early 2000's. I was on the waiting list for about 4 years before I was contacted. By then I had 4 Rigby Double D cutters. I was able to have 8 blade sizes available all the time. When the Thownsend cutter came out, it was a no brainer. It is smaller than the Bolivar and I could have access to all the cut sizes, not just 3. At that time, the blades were permanently mounted and you could not change them out on the Bolivar.
